Stewardship as a Team Sport
Stewardship is more than managing resources—it is the shared calling to use our God‑given gifts for the good of others. As 1 Peter 4:10 reminds us, we are entrusted with “the magnificently varied grace of God,” meant to be offered in service. Team sports give us a glimpse of what this looks like: people working together, encouraging one another, and celebrating a common purpose. The church is no different. When we practice kindness, patience, forgiveness, and love, we strengthen the body of Christ and make our ministries flourish.
Jesus chose disciples not because He needed help, but because service shapes us into who God calls us to be. Stewardship as a team sport means no one carries the load alone, everyone is welcomed, and together we reach those who need hope. We may not change the whole world, but we can change someone’s life—and that matters deeply.
Right now, at Saint Matthew we have many new and exciting things happening. We are on the verge of an outpouring of God’s love into this eastside neighborhood. I believe the outpouring will be a tidal wave. I am praying for it.
If the people of Israel could build a wall while living under the threat of harm, we can most assuredly reach this neighborhood. Blessings to all, Mary
